If you forget that it's there and open the door, you'll hear the most ear piercing sound. There are two different sound levels low and high. Of course mine is set to high. I also have a home alarm system. This is my backup in case i forget to set the alarm. I'm ordering a replacement because i accidentally stepped on this one. Don't hesitate to purchase this because it works and it's inexpensive!!! !
